This round shield is made of approx. 13 mm thick plywood and painted with four Norse griffons or dragons. Maybe this is the Midgard Serpent.
It features a steel shield boss, four ornamental cast fittings made of brass on the front and a solid wooden handle on the back.
The edge of the shield is lined with leather.
