ReConference 2021

After the success of the 2018 ReConference, and a lot of public demand, we are delighted to announce the return of our multidisciplinary event focused on Living history and Re-enactment! During the 5th to 7th of November 2021, Hands on History will once again be providing a platform for all those involved in this fascinating approach to connecting the past and present.

We will pick up right where we left off in 2018, and continue working on a common vocabulary for all those who are dealing with re-creating, experiencing and exploring cultural heritage. Our aim is to go beyond the boundaries of any specific time period, and reach for the core of what makes these disciplines such a powerful tool for exploring the human condition. This ambition will be achieved by organizing workshops, providing a stage for experts in the field as well as giving anyone the opportunity to contribute to the discussion.

This will all be taking place in the immersive and stimulating environment of the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. There will be no sitting still for three consecutive days. Instead, imagine the smell of smoke, the sound of tools and voices bellowing unique perspectives, whilst surrounded by like-minded individuals from all over the globe. Key talks will be followed up by workshops and practical demonstrations throughout the event, as well as opportunities for networking. We would also like this event to produce tangible effects, and this is why we have set ourselves some clear goals:

A publication of all the major talks and contributions.
A video compilation of the conference to prepare ourselves for posterity.
In order realize these goals, we cannot rely on our wits alone. Therefore we will create an accessible platform, where everyone will get the opportunity to share their views in the form of discussion panels, open mic sessions and workshops.

We believe that together we can maximize the potential of Living History and Re-enactment for making the world we live in better and more sustainable. Therefore we are thrilled to have you over in 2021 – joining us in creating the future of the past.

Yours historically,

The Hands on History Team
