Replica of a real medieval candlestick.
The original comes from Germany and was probably created in the 13th century.
The motif is a warrior who sits in the mouth of a dragon and opens it up with his hands.
The warrior wears a mail aventail, nasal helmet and probably a chain mail. It therefore probably dates from the high Middle Ages.
Possibly here reference was made to the Nibelungen legend (warrior = Siegfried?) and / or the dragon slayer in the form of St. George.
A solid cast brass candlestick, but the bottom (inside) is hollow.
